25 Cleveland restaurants with the most food inspection violations in 2018-2019

AP

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Here are the Cleveland restaurants and retailers cited with the most food inspection violations during the 2018-2019 inspection year ending Feb. 28, according to state records.

Some 3,035 places were cited during the most recent inspection year. But more than one-half of the cited locations received four or fewer citations.

The places listed below are the top 25 for most violations (actually 28 including ties for the final spot), each with at least 39 violations. See these links for the lists for the previous three inspection years, 2017-2018,  2016-17 and 2015-16.

Some violations are minor. Some can be disturbing. Many problems are fixed at the time of the inspection. Health inspectors cannot impose fines, but health departments can suspend or revoke operating licenses.

Violations identified as "critical" are those that "may immediately lead to a foodborne illness," state health officials say.

For the details on each violation, check out our related database at the end of this story. Or find the data and food inspection reports from Cleveland, Akron and elsewhere in Greater Cleveland at this link.
