CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Perrion Winfrey’s case for misdemeanor assault against a woman he was dating was dismissed Friday upon completion of a pretrial conversion program, according to court documents in Harris County, Texas.

His next court date had been scheduled for July 11th.

Winfrey, the Browns fourth-round pick in 2022, was also robbed at gunpoint in Cleveland along with cornerback Greg Newsome II last week, but Winfrey and Newsome escaped unscathed. Newsome had his jewelry stolen off of him, and the suspects -- six masked men -- fled in Newsome’s 2022 Ram pick-up truck.

Winfrey returned to the practice field on Thursday after spending the previous two days working inside. Coach Kevin Stefanski said he was healthy, but declined to say if it disciplinary.

Winfrey will join the team for the start of training camp July 22nd at The Greenbrier Resort in West Va.

Winfrey is vying for a job at defensive tackle, where the Browns have added a lot of talent this offseason. They’ve signed free agents Dalvin Tomlinson, Maurice Hurst and Trysten Hill, and traded for defensive linemen Za’Darius Smith, who lined up a lot inside during minicamp. The Browns also veteran tackles Jordan Elliott and Tommy Togiai challenging for spots.

But the Browns stuck by Winfrey through maturity issues last season -- including two incidents that got him benched for games -- and are prepared to do so again.
