Zachary Smith, cleveland.com

Zachary Smith is the resident cleveland.com data journalist. Originally from Queens, New York, he reports on any beat that comes with a spreadsheet but does specialize in health and climate journalism, with interests in issues surrounding food security and how communities are affected by toxic chemicals from manufacturers. During the pandemic, he received a master’s degree from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at City University of New York. In addition to covering Northeast Ohio through a data lens, he has words in Everyday Health, VICE, Crain’s New York, Food Bank News and local New York outlets. Before becoming a journalist, he worked in print production for magazine publishers and content marketing for advertising agencies. He also is a licensed drone pilot and will welcome any tips that let him record video footage with a drone – his favorite so far was a shipwreck he found off the coast of Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. zsmith@cleveland.com
