CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland Clinic police officer is in the hospital after a car-theft suspect crashed into the officer’s vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Cleveland Clinic officers responded to reports of stolen vehicles from an employee parking lot on the hospital’s main campus, according to a statement from a clinic spokesperson.

An officer was driving near E. 89th Street and Euclid Ave. when a car-theft suspect collided with the officer’s vehicle. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment but clinic police could not share more details about the officer’s condition.

The collision was not a result of a police pursuit, the statement said.

The hospital is urging patients, visitors and caregivers to avoid the intersection of E. 89th Street and Euclid Ave. until the accident has been cleared.

Cleveland Clinic’s main campus is secure, and all hospital operations are continuing as planned, the statement said.
