CLOVIS, Calif. -- Wawona Frozen Foods, which distributes its products through Costco Wholesale stores, has recalled year-old packages of frozen fruit as a cautionary move over concerns of Hepatitis A contamination.

There have been no illnesses associated with the product, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said. But the packages of Organic DayBreak Blend contain strawberries grown in Mexico that have the potential for contamination.

Hepatitis A is a contagious virus that can cause liver disease, according to the FDA. A Hepatitis A infection can range from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a severe illness lasting several months. In rare cases, particularly for people who have a pre-existing severe illness or are immune compromised, Hepatitis A infections can progress to liver failure.

The 4-pound packages were distributed through Costco stores in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah and Washington from April 15, 2022, to June 26, 2022, the FDA said.

The packages have “Use By” dates of 09/23/2023, 09/29/2023, 09/30/2023 and 10/18/2023. Consumers should check their freezers for the recalled blend and not consume it, the FDA said. The product should be either discarded or returned to the store for a refund.
