Man at bus stop reportedly has ski mask, handgun in waistband; it draws police officers’ attention

AKRON, Ohio — A man who caught the attention of police officers after he was seen at a bus stop with a ski mask and a firearm in his waistband is now facing multiple criminal charges, including accusations related to trafficking fentanyl.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Austin Richards, 24, was seen by officers at about 9 p.m. at a bus stop on the 2100 block of Sixth Street SW in the Kenmore neighborhood. Police say the extended magazine of a firearm could be seen in his waistband, along with the ski mask.

Richards began walking away as officers approached, then took off running, police say, but he was caught after a brief chase.

Police say they recovered a firearm on the ground near where Richards had climbed a fence. They also found a bag with reportedly had a second firearm inside, along with 11 grams of fentanyl and a digital scale.

Richards is charged with trafficking, possession of drugs, two counts of carrying concealed weapons, and obstructing official business. He is being held in the Summit County Jail.
